The Coming Dark Days
FFG: What is your favorite part of the world of Arkham Horror ?.
GM: I think that playing the game and write about your world makes you feel part of the myths Lovercraft created and I'm contributing in some measure to promote it. The world Arkham Horror is a shared universe that is enriched Fortunately each player's participation, writer and reader.
FFG: Who would you say is your favorite character in the world of Arkham Horror ?.
GM: I have to say it's Pete "Trashcan" because I like the nature of helpless and pure common sense to think that even someone like him can make a difference. Pete has a brief cameo in the Miskatonic guls , but one anecdotal, and I hope to bring Pete back in later books and dig through her past to discover that he be the man he is. How did it end in the streets?. What led him to drink?. Toco these elements in this book, but I think this m'as see as the story unfolds. And the fact that I have a dog who can throw against the bad guys to save his sanity. It is always a great moment of pathos in our part of Arkham Horror when this occurs.
FFG: What is your favorite aspect of the transfer the board game Arkham Horror a novel as the Miskatonic guls ?.
GM: I guess it was bringing to the fore the Lovercraft cosmic horror. In Arkham Horror, you can battle monsters and the world is not necessarily doomed. There is a sense that there is always a glimmer of hope that he might, just might, the world be saved. What I like about Lovercraft is the coldness of life. The idea that humanity is just this insignificant speck on the face of such cosmic horrors is what makes his work so interesting. To remind the reader that we are all doomed to be enslaved / slaughtered by the Great Old Ones long deadline was great fun!.
FFG: What part of the Miskatonic guls was more exciting to write?.
GM: The scene where our characters meet for the first time with a creature of myth, a beast that is clearly not of this Earth. I usually write fiction where the characters understand what they are fighting and have common frames of reference for what they are seeing. This was a great opportunity to show how a normal person would react when facing extraordinary. How can get to begin to describe?. Should they fight, or should run?. Can you do any of these things while your brain is leaking out of fear for their ears ...?.
FFG: What inspires you to write?.
GM: I'm a big fan of David Gemmell, and I think his work has the greatest influence on my writing style. The vast imagination of Clive Barker is also a great inspiration, and love the poetry of its language. It is horror, but there are some beauty in it. To achieve something that is amazing, and try mix these styles together seems to be my particular voice.
FFG: What advice would you give to young writers?.
GM : Persevere. No one is great the first time you do (unless you have a natural talent that is really lucky, anyway, better for you!). It takes years of research, write and learn what it is telling people about your work before it gets better. I always say that writing is a skill like any other. The more you practice the better you are given. Write every day, even if only for twenty minutes, working those muscles Mentally. Read a lot and read a lot of different things to see other stories, other characters and other genres work. Jump from fiction to nonfiction, your favorite books to something you've never tried before. It is no accident that the best writers are the best readers.
FFG: Finally, to which of our games you like to play more, if any?.
GM: We usually play regularly here, and Arkham Horror often is on the table. He loves his cooperative element, the fact that the players are united against gambling. From time to time we enter the Fury of Dracula if we are gothic or Talisman if we need a rapid need for a good old-fashioned fantasy.
